The Malheur Field Station (MFS) is located on the northern end of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) in southeastern Oregon.

Location and Setting

The Field Station is surrounded by a unique and diverse setting of desert, wetlands, and mountains. Corresponding to the variety of habitats, visitors have opportunities to witness a spectacular array of birds, plants, stunning geological landscapes and incredible dark night skies.

The MFS is a nonprofit education and research center dedicated to lifelong learning in and about the northern Great Basin region with over 35 years in the Study and Service of Botany, Ornithology, Geology, Entomology, Cultural History, Astronomy, Music, and Visual Arts.
